Course Description
This course is designed to benefit migrants who want to learn basic sewing skills and those who have already learned them but lack confidence in conversing about their craft.
Students will make simple projects while learning to use a domestic sewing machine and practicing the vocabulary related to sewing machines and the creative process.
Course Materials
The tutor will provide a vocabulary list, a grammar handout, the fabric and notions necessary to complete their projects.
English Language Level
Level 3 ( Pre-intermediate Level) and Level 4 (Intermediate Level).
Course Prerequisite Conditions
This course is suitable for ESOL students at the Pre-intermediate level and above because it requires understanding and complying with safety requirements.
Course Fee Subsidy
This course is subsided by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizens and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency, or refugee status to our staff for sighting purposes.
The tuition fee is free for NZ Residents / Citizens / Partnership Visa of NZ Residents or Citizens. (A $40 administration fee applies)
The tuition fee is $100 for Work Visa holders or $175 for Non-Residents.
Please note: All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
