Course Description

This course will suit anyone with no knowledge (or a little) who are interested in learning how to weave using harakeke (flax) and traditional Maori tikanga (cultural values and practices).  Students learn about different harakeke varieties, harvesting and preparation techniques the leaves and how to make a variety of small kete and containers.  Harakeke and necessary tools will be provided, however you may wish to bring some of your own basic tools: scissors and a Stanley knife.

All materials are included in the course fee.

Course Fee Subsidy

This course is subsided by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizens and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency, or refugee status to our staff for sighting purposes.

For Non- Resident students there will be a surcharge of NZD$20.
