Course Description

Encounter the flavours, aromas, spices and culture of Gloria's home country and learn how to create a selection of easy and tasty Authentic Mexican food in this hands-on class. 

Gloria will share her 20+ years of cooking knowledge from her home country, and you will discover just how tasty and easy it is to create.

This class is for those who would like to learn to recreate their favourite dishes or learn to make use of all of the incredible chiles, beans, fruits and vegetables available in the mercados. (Supermarket) You don't need much experience in the kitchen to cook amazing Mexican food, just a willingness to give it a try and experiment.

You will be cooking authentic dishes such:

  • a  handmade corn tortilla (gluten free)
  • salsas & guacamole
  • main courses such as Tacos  de Carnitas (pulled pork), fish tacos, Tostadas, sopes and Gorditas (Empanadas  all gluten free)  (chicken and mince ) and a few classic selections
  • breakfast like Huevos Rancheros (eggs rancheros), Chilaquiles con pollo  and Tinga de pollo ( Chicken)
  • traditional  Mexican drinks such a agua de horchata (rice) and platano ( banana).

Come and enjoy three evenings of delicious Mexican food. No more tortillas from the supermarket, learn how to make your own. On the last night ,we will celebrate with a  Mexican fiesta! Cooking authentic Mexican food is easier than you think!!!

Course Materials

The tutor provides all the ingredients. The cost of these ingredients is included in the course fee. 

At both sessions, please bring the following items:

  • One or two sharp vegetable knives
  • A spoon and fork
  • 2 or 3 tea towels
  • A few different-sized containers to take your food home
  • An apron 
  • Pen and paper
  • A smile

Course Fee Subsidy

This course is subsidised by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizens and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency, or refugee status to our staff for sighting purposes.

For Non- Resident students there will be a surcharge of NZD$20.

   

 

                                                                                                           

Pease note: All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
